Om Daniel
What can you expect from teaching with me?
I am originally from the US and am currently learning Danish. Until my Danish improves, teaching will be taking place in English. But I am improving! In my teaching, I emphasize that learning to play must be fun and relevant for the student. I help the students form routines that work for their personal goals, so they never have to question “what” or “how” to practice. I do not classify myself as a “classical” or “rhythmic” musician, because I play and teach it all: classical, jazz, pop, funk, and everything else a trumpet or flugelhorn can play! I just love music! I aim to teach my students to grow the confidence and skills to be their own best teachers, and I aim to instill in them a love of music they can keep for their whole lives. Not everyone wants to be a professional player, and I understand that! I recommend that we meet once a week and that the student practices consistently at home between each lesson. Something important to understand about the trumpet is that the beginning is often challenging and progresses slowly, but a consistent and engaged student will enjoy much faster progress!
How do we begin?
First, I offer a short start-up conversation with the student, so that we can get a sense of who we each are. Here I will ask about what the student would like to learn and special goals, in order to find out how I can be the best teacher for the student. On the same occasion, we can agree a time for the first lesson, which takes place either at my studio in Nordvest, or possibly the student's home. After the first lesson, I would typically recommend buying a clip card, as it is both the cheapest and easiest, and unused clips can be refunded.
What is my experience as a teacher?
I have 20 years of experience in teaching music — from middle school students all the way up to teaching five years as a university professor — but I take students of all ages. I teach from beginner level up through professional level. You don't have to be nervous if you've never played trumpet before…we all sound silly and terrible at the beginning!
What is my professional background?
I have been playing trumpet, flugelhorn, and singing for over 25 years, and have been teaching music privately for the last 20 years. I currently teach trumpet at the Holbæk Kulturskole and conduct the Holbæk Garden, and I have taug...
