Om Simon H.

Simon teaches in English. He teaches drums, music theory and band coaching. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Utrecht (The Netherlands) and is a Master student at the Royal Academy of Music in Aalborg. He has over five years of experience as a private/group teacher and 15 years of experience as a performing drummer/percussionist.
His work ranges from big band to improvised theatre and from bebop to disco. With indie band Alcuna Wilds (UK/NL), Simon has played in Belgium, Germany, England and as the support act for Sigur Rós in AFAS Live, Amsterdam. He has also performed with the HKU Big Band alongside jazz greats Ilja Reijngoud and Tineke Postma.
Simon’s teaching motto is “practice what you teach”. He adds value by bringing his experience as a working musician to the lessons.

The lessons
Students of all levels and ages are welcome. Simon finds it important that students feel comfortable enough to express themselves and make mistakes. They will get proper personal guidance whether they have ambitious goals or play purely for enjoyment. Anything goes, as long as they are committed and bring a good mood.

First lesson
The student will be encouraged to talk about interests, favourite genres, dreams and doubts. His/her wishes and learning goals will be discussed and the skills on the instrument will be evaluated. The student is responsible for bringing a pair of drumsticks and writing materials.
